I told everyone that I was going to have a SILENT RETREAT these holidays. I took the batteries out of the door bell, put up a sign, and sort of achieved that for a few days. However, so many of you have asked me where the newsletter and blog entry was, that I have relented to just let you know that all is well, and I am here quietly doing my yoga, doing my meditation, spending time in the garden and on the chi machine, thinking, thinking, and preparing for the next 12 months with you.
I am well into the next book. I have had a few false starts on books that appealed until I actually sat down to do them, and then they didn't seem right. The next book (which is absolutely perfect and flowing nicely) is "THE CHAKRAS - your personal powerhouse", together with a series of "colour them yourself" chakra charts. I have also started a series of large paintings of the chakras which will be exhibited in June or therabouts. I have a few tentative dates, but these have yet to be cemented in.
I will keep you posted. Everything about this project is exciting, and I have to thank my wonderful friends and students for supporting me in all my wild endeavours, thank you. This year is going to be a beauty.

G'DAY JAHNE
GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES
Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….
This morning I would like you to think about "TITHING"
It is my belief that we are all a part of a Universal Bank of energy. We are spiritual beings having a human experience, and we are not outside of this energy.. We exist within it. You will only discover the joy of giving, and the depth to which it can prosper you, when you actually do it. Tithing helps us to open the doors of our mind, and enter into a whole new relationship with money and guaranteed supply. The money can come "from wherever it is now" to you. There is no shortage of money – there is a unwillingness to give because of a feeling of lack.
* The core of the process is to calculate your income from all sources, work out what 10% of it is, and then GIVE THAT 10% AWAY.
* It should not be given to an organisation that gives you something material as a benefit for that donation. It is preferably and anonymous expression of giving, and no tithe is too big or too small.
* I see it as inappropriate to respond to an organisation or person who asks for the money, when we give because of a feeling of guilt. That is not tithing, which is an expression of the "joy of giving".
* Develop an awareness to notice people and groups who help others to feel empowered, and give because you love to do it. It can be a tithe of time and expertise, if you actually have no money at all.
* I am not suggesting that well known charities should not be supported, however, this is another form of giving, and is not to be confused with tithing.
* When a group ask you to regularly tithe to them from your income then I see that as a tax, not a tithe.
TITHING IS NOT STAGNANT OR FIXED. It has free flowing as the dynamically changing universe. Remember that regular giving means regular receiving. If your income is shrinking, don't contract, EXPAND. Give, give, give and see what happens.
"YARN-BOMBING"
We have finished for the year. Going back the second week in January preparing for Anzac Day. We have got the OK to make the garden in front of the library a "sea of Poppies", so I hope that you will all start making little red flowers with black centres. They don't have to look exactly like poppies, just red and black the size of a poppy. They can be knitted, crochet'd or sewn. Maybe it is something you and the children can do over the holidays.. You could drop the finished poppies into the studio or to LuLu in the library at any time.
HOW ABOUT AFFILIATING IN THE NEW YEAR?
You have been teaching for some time now, have a full book in your classes? The next step is to apply for affiliation with us so that you can be a teacher training centre where you are. We still do all the modules, the theory, but you get to teach the asanas, techniques – the hands-on stuff.
It is the natural progression, and you can set your own rates, your own school name etc – just under our banner. Think about it and get back to me.
"You are the ruby in the heart of granite. How long will you try to deceive us. We can see the truth in your eyes. So come, return to the root of the root of your own self" (Rumi)
"MEDICINE STONES" MASSAGE WITH JAHNE – I have sent out the Christmas Specials, and you should have received them. Please book ahead – you know what Christmas is like AND I AM TAKING 2 WEEKS OFF. No massages, no yoga, nothing but doing my own thing in that time. www.pptmassage.com
PPT/MEDICINE STONE MASSAGE COURSE:
I have received a number of requests and have decided to conduct a course over the holidays. If you want to be a professional masseur, then join me. The course will take place on Sunday January 12th and Sunday February 23rd, there is a home study component, a physical assessment and an exam. The EARLY BIRD cost of the course is $450 or, it can be paid off over 3 months ($100 per month) after a deposit of $175. Please email me if you would like to do the course. yogafirst@netcon.net.au or you can enrol and post/scan the form to me. Do this via the web site. www.pptmassage.com
MAKING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS WITH THE CHILDREN
Here's another idea. I was reminded of it when I saw a Miss Marple mystery recently. Paper chains. First you need some paper in different colours – we used to use crepe paper at home and at school , but anything will do. Even left over Christmas wrapping. Cut into length about 20cmx3cm. Then make chains by linking and looping, sticking one loop through another. They will look like a long coloured chain when you are finished. You can use clag, glue stick or cello tape to stick the ends of the loops to each other forming the chain. The Miss Marple movie where they actually do this is "Murder on the 4.45 from Paddington".
When I was at school there was no such thing as tinsel or bought decorations, we had to make them all ourselves. It was a great family activity and I recall sitting with mum, dad and my sister making these chains of different lengths and thicknesses – some tiny ones for the tree, and larger ones for around the house. We also used to string popcorn, but it took longer because we ate it as we went along.

CHRISTMAS FEES:
Christmas is only a week away. No-one likes to talk about money, BUT, now is the time to consider your Christmas budget. Every year we get a number of folk who have left their Christmas plans to the last minute and email to ask if I wouldn't mind them not paying their fees for a few months while they "catch up". If you haven't thought about your budget, think now. Maybe pay your fees in advance.
THE YAMAS (Our book is on etsy!)
If you are doing the teacher training course, and you think you will be teaching, then you will need this book on THE YAMAS in order that you understand utterly what they are all about. You may think you do, but I have to say, few people do. I have made the cost very low so that you all can afford a copy… A few students have already accessed it on ETSY where it is available as a PDF for $7.99 www.MyYogaBooks.etsy.com
Now that "THE YAMAS, Simple and Serious" ($7.99) is up on Etsy, I am working on new Ebooks. "HOW TO BECOME A YOGA TEACHER BY HOME STUDY" is up on Etsy, and has just been sent to the publisher and I am half way through "101 WAYS TO KICK START YOUR YOGA BUSINESS and your life (via the Yamas)". The next in planning stage is "HOW TO START AND RUN A SUCCESSFUL YOGA STUDIO" These last three are $2.99 each, and available to everyone and also on Etsy (soon to be Ebooks) www.MyYogaBooks.etsy.com

MY YOGA BOOKS -
I am really getting stuck in to writing (and I love it). Once I start writing even I amazed at how much is stuffed into my brain about yoga. I am unstuffing and letting you have the benefit. My booklets will all be under $10 and I suggest that you get them all as they come off the press. If you are training to be a teacher, have graduated, are running a small or large studio, or plan to, then these are indispensable.
"THE YAMAS Simple and Serious" $7.99
"HOW TO BECOME A YOGA TEACHER BY HOME STUDY" $2.99. If you are "fence sitting", deciding whether to be a yoga teacher, to move from the "introduction course" to the full professional certification, then you would do well to read this book. Www.MyYogaBooks.etsy.com. If you are an Affiliate and have some students you would like to enrol in your teacher training course, then this may be a good investment.
And nearly finished – soon to be loaded 'HOW TO START AND RUN A SUCCESSFUL YOGA STUDIO" $2.99
For all my books, my main outlet is www.myyogabooks.etsy.com
GI/GF (?) WITH JAHNE
I went to Olive Jones Restaurant last weekend whilst they were dealing with a wedding, in particular saw the cutting up of a wedding cake – what a difficult and exacting job. Everyone of course HAS to have a piece. This cake was made by BLACKBIRD CAKES in Woodend and it was a stunner. I was so engrossed that when they offered me a piece I was so engrossed (and distracted), that I said "yes" and ate it, only waking up to the fact that it was probably loaded with flour when it had gone down the gullet. OOPS. It was a very tiny piece, it did cause me some grief, but darlings, it was worth it – what a lovely cake. Even the icing was beautiful.
THE GARDEN:
It has been perfect gardening weather, and in spite of the fact I have had a recovering shoulder injury (not from yoga), I found myself lopping away. I really shouldn't have, but it was getting to be a bit like "tiger country" out the back. I could have asked for support, but I did it myself, and I enjoyed it. However, it is amazing how much slower everything is when you can't use one shoulder! I cropped the broad beans. Got heaps, and also froze the tips of the plants. They will make great dips when there are few green things about.
The raspberries are providing lots of berries already, and thanks to the cat, I don't think I will have to net. She is doing a good guard job.
YIN YOGA DVD with Paul Grilley
We are selling these for under $40 plus postage which may explain our turnover. When I bought mine I paid nearly $100 for it and was pleased to do it. So if you want a set, order now from the shop on our web site – or ring Debbie and she will post one out as soon as they come to hand – call on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 0354 273 518 (or order one when you come to teacher training. FACEBOOK/BLOGS
Catch up with me over Christmas on my YOGA BLOG www.myyogabeautiful.blogspot.comwww.myyogabeautiful.blogspot.com
I am putting this newsletter up on the blog after I have posted it here. So if you want to get in first with the newsletter – I put it on the blog before it goes to the publisher…… that's where to look.
JAHNE'S MENTORING SESSIONS – "Step4th Mentoring"
This is the time of the year when friction happens in families. It is also the time of the year when we think we are going to do heaps and then feel bad because we haven't. The next step is "ring Jahne". I love it when you do, but there are only so many hours in a day, and I do have a few rules.
Because I have been teaching yoga for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) I am often asked for advice. Asking course questions is welcome and free, but, if you wish to have me help you with relationships, career, or just getting personally "unstuck" then that is coaching/mentoring and does come with a cost. Her charge per half hour for mentoring is $75 and $65 for student teachers. It is amazing how much you can shift in half an hour when you strip away the unnecessary chatter. It's the Buddhist way.
"THE WOODEND MINISTRY OF FOOD".
This is the time of the year when you can donate some of your time to those less fortunate. I am sure that in your town there are community dinners being catered for and to – they always need helpers. Contact your local council if you are not sure about where these dinners are, or your local Church. If you have time read "The Ethics of what we Eat" by Peter singer.
'A CIRCLE OF WOMEN" (our monthly meetings – next one see above)
A CIRCLE OF WOMEN may just be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it. DIVE IN, HOLD ON, LOVE IT UP. Get naked. Let them see you. Let them hold you. Let your reluctant tears fall. Let yourself rise fierce and love gentle. YOU WILL BE CHANGED. The very fabric of your being will be altered by this, if you allow it. PLEASE, PLEASE ALLOW IT (author:: Jeanette Leblanc).
Our monthly lunches are becoming a meeting place for our yoga girls and others, and certainly are a CIRCLE OF WOMEN. Please join in.
REGARDING DEBBIE – If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She is available on Ph: 0354 273 518. I am always here, and available preferably on email or text because I teach. Don't hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can..
Log on to our Web site www.yogabeautiful.com.au,
and tune in to our videos daily.
ENJOY – Love and Blessings,

HERE 'TIS - THE NEWSLETTER
GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES
Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….
As our morning contemplation, how about we think of the role of GRACE (or gratitude). This is especially important at this time of the year as we plan Christmas dinners – sometimes, with multiple family connections, these may be multiple Christmas functions. I know that unless your family is used to saying Grace, there maybe some red-faces, but I think it is worth sticking to your guns.
When my children were at home we always said Grace. Even though they were used to it there still from time to time were "testing moments". But I believe in it, so we said it. It doesn't have to be long-winded. Just something that honours the food, the animals we have sacrificed, the cook and of course God (or the Universe or whatever). It changes the mood of the meal, and brings to mind the sacred, even if it is only for a few minutes. Here is an easy example from the Zen Buddhist tradition:
First, let us reflect on our own work and the effort of those who brought us this food.
Second, let us be aware of the quality of our deeds as we receive this meal.
Third, what is most essential is the practice of mindfulness, which helps us to transcend greed, anger and delusion.
Fourth, we appreciate this food which sustains the good health of our body and mind.
Fifth, in order to continue our practice for all beings we accept this offering.
It is simple, but says all that is needed to be said – and is easy to understand, even for a child. Try it, start now so that when you actually are sitting around your special family meal, it is not such a different and strange things to do. You could get each family member to read out one line.
As promised, here are the recipient of our end of year awards. Your certificates are on the way!
(These awards have nothing to do with having the most beautiful asanas, looking good, or meeting any of society's view of what constitutes a good yoga teacher or class. The criteria are below, but I must say that I applied the yamas to each nomination. "Were they living close to these challenges" was my first question)
* MOST IMPROVED STUDENT – ACHIEVED BY: NATALIE AUKSORIUS
The Student who has overcome study difficulties/learning and personal challenges and is making great strides in their course. Each module sent in on time, each module better than the last as their capabilities and understanding grows. They may or may not have completed the year.
* MOST INSPIRATIONAL STUDENT - ACHIEVED BY: KALMA TAPPIN
The student who applied the most effort to their course, who researched well, who asks questions,
who is prepared to challenge me and explore difficult issues. The student who is obviously "in love" with yoga. No detail is too small, no question is unanswered.
* GRADUATES OF THE YEAR: JAALA MATHEWSON AND ALISSA ISLES
Those students who rose up as the year progressed, meeting life challenges, growing personally and professionally through diligently doing the course. These students stayed in contact, went down each path as suggested, thought about the things we discussed, gave heaps of feedback to the newsletter or assessments. They read, studied, and understood.
* ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR: GENEVIENVE SARIG.
The person who said "yes" to life and met great difficulties, complexity and challenge. This may have taken them down paths that they did not expect, but they have taken each challenge as it came along with grace, calm, and in each instance, followed the yamas. They have not only completed the course, they have inspired others.
Congratulations to everyone above. The awards were well deserved.
"YARN-BOMBING"
We only have a short time to go and we will be finished for the year. It is however, still a wonderful get-together time. A short peaceful interlude with "the girls" in the middle of the Christmas mayhem. (If you are looking for a Christmas project, go see the ZPAGETTI on the web site shop www.yogabeautiful.com.au)
"MEDICINE STONES" MASSAGE WITH JAHNE – We have a great special happening at the moment, just for December/January. A $10 discount. Almost the price of two Champagnes at Zarbys… Spoil yourself. This massage will rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. To explore this further before you come, go to the web site www.pptmassage.com
CHRISTMAS SEED CARDS – a gift that keeps on giving.
Instead of buying cards, sit down with the children and make your own. For a very special touch, buy packets of tiny seeds divide them up, and put them in little tiny envelopes you have made yourself with a see through paper. Staple the envelopes to your cards, and voila! You have a useful SEED CARD. When the seeds grow the recipient will always think of you.
MAKING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS WITH THE CHILDREN
Have you ever thought of using macaroni as Christmas decoration. It's easy to do and will keep the children entertained for some time. Get packets of macaroni and long lengths of string or wool. Paint the macaroni (a bead at a time) with acrylic paint, and whilst they are still wet, you could dip them in glitter, tie one bead firmly at the end of the string to stop them just sliding off, then string them. Tie another macaroni or two at the end to keep the macaroni beads safely on the string. String them between the backs of chairs to dry, and then use these strings on your tree. They will keep for next year (don't think of boiling them up!).
You could decoupage larger pasta, draw on them, do all kinds of things, and they don't cost much to do. Look good too.

If you haven't thought about your budget, think now. Maybe pay your fees in advance.
THE TEACHER TRAINING VIDEOS
I hope that you are all getting as much as I am out of this "discipline". I record every Monday morning (depending on the light). GI/GF (?) WITH JAHNE
Still marvelling at the changes that are taking place with the GF diet. I am eating, eating, eating, and for the first time in my life eating what I want, and when I am hungry. I am so looking forward to christmas dinner…. I am not afraid of food anymore. If only my mum had known about this!
PS don't herald the change, just discretely change and note the result.
THE RECIPES – "No grain no pain"
Have you tried the TURMERIC MANGO SMOOTHIE? I have been having it every morning, and with the addition of a green wonder powder, I just don't feel at all hungry. Plus I have the bous of knowing I am doing good things for my gut. You should try it.
I also have a short quiz there which will give you a clue if you are Gluten Intolerant. This is just a short Q and A, but if you answer "Yes" to all the questions or even half, it will point you in the right direction.
If you are paying more and more for nut milks why not make your own. It is simple. Blend your usual nuts (cashews, peanuts, mixed, your choice) with water, and strain them through the bags. That is all there is to it. You could add honey or vanilla (or chocolate), and save money. Plus the resulting milk would be chemical free! www.yogabeautiful.com.au
THE GARDEN:
It has been raining, raining, raining here this week. Did I say I had a few big branches and one tree taken away. It has opened things up, and now my mock orange has just taken off. It is lovely. The guy who did it (my age I would say) roared up in a sexy "boys toy". When I complemented him, he asked if I had ever driven a "real car". "Of course I had", I said and rattled off a few names. "Then don't you think its about time you got rid of that "*shit bucket" (unquote) in the drive", he said. My poor little Mazda. I love her. She is 21 next year. She was so upset I had to go out and take her for a shampoo just to make up - we are friends again now. Good job my visitor was a fantastic tree lopper…..
* please excuse the Australian forthright approach. It is what he said, and I roared laughing. It was very funny in context.

JAHNE'S MENTORING SESSIONS – "Step4th Mentoring"
Because Jahne has been teaching yoga for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) she is often asked for advice. Asking course questions is free, but, if you wish to have Jahne help you with relationships, career, or just getting personally "unstuck" then that is coaching/mentoring and does come with a cost. Her charge per half hour for mentoring is $75 and $65 for student teachers. It is amazing how much you can shift in half an hour when you strip away the unnecessary chatter. It's the Buddhist way.
"THE WOODEND MINISTRY OF FOOD".
Now is the time to really be eagle-eyed about what is being served at Christmas dinners and elsewhere. I love the Christmas spreads, I adore Christmas dinner, especially the puds, BUT please, don't waste anything. Find ways to re-use your scraps. Please don't just bin them. Dig a hole and feed your garden, or start a compost, or start a compost on the patio in a special container. Whatever. Don't waste. I would appreciate feedback – lots of feedback. Please contact me at yogafirst@netcon.net.au.
Our yoga classes are the source of a CIRCLE OF WOMEN, and the luncheon functions and etc provides the fun part of our circle. Please join in.
REGARDING DEBBIE – If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
