THE YOGA OF KNITTING

I have always "played around" with knitting.  Never taken it really seriously unless you can count that fair isle sweater I knitted for a boyfriend who increased his size to such an extent, that by the time I finished that I couldnt get it over his head.  Anyway that's another story.  I was re-introduced to REAL knitting by a group known as "The Woodend Yarn Bombers".  We knitted wonderful covers for the local wishing-well, bike stands, bollards, trees, and anything we could.  It was such fabulous nonsense and fun that I have kept going.  The upshot of it is I have become a guerilla knitter, and will convert anyone at the drop of a hat (or stitch).

A few months before I joined the "bombers", I took yarn and needles in to Innisfree, as I thought that this would help them to overcome...  I thought that when the students there were not doing yoga, or having accupuncture etc, they could knit (instead of chain smoking, or thingking about chain smoking).  No-one even looked at the wool!    However, over the last few weeks I have been bringing in bits and pieces I have knitted, shown pics of the tarted up streetscapes and voila, knitting has taken hold.

It has been so lovely to be sitting teaching philosophy to a group who are busy knitting.   Mike has been roped in to teach casting on and off, and dealing with dropped stitches, so it really has become an Innisfree family affair.

If you have never been calm, just sat, and are having trouble thinking about what meditation might be, knitting is a good first step.  It really is "The Yoga of Knitting".
