THIS WEEKS NEWS

GOOD MORNING PRECIOUS ONES

Honouring the Universe – The philosophy of The Australasian Yoga Institute….

Debbie was telling me about a community she visited down on the wild coast in Tasmania.  This ramshackle group of shacks (build by accident rather than design), houses a group of people and families that in ordinary circumstances would find life difficult even in Woodend where I live I suspect, and we are a "caring community", but not by these standards.

One community member who is not able really to care for himself was smoking whilst filling the generator and caused the shed and generator to burn down – a neighbour gave him another.  Members are delivered meals when it is known they are not well – or are just delivered beautiful desserts because they might like one.  A neighbour takes the children fishing when mum and dad are a bit stressed…. Massages and herbal remedies are shared without expectation of reward.  You may have eight extras at various points of a dinner, some come at main, others around the time of dessert, or others just to chat over a wine at the end.  It's all very open ended, and how communities used to be.  The natural barter system is alive and well in this lovely part of the world.

I think it is possible because the community is remote, there is no electricity, everyone has to rely on the other person, and the group has built up over time.  In this community, moving on rarely happens – where would they go?   Each householder has known their neighbour as a friend for ten, 15 or even 20 years.  This doesn't usually happen even in our town.  It used to, but it doesn't any more.

To complicate matters further, our homes are packed with lots of stuff we don't want people to touch.  We are too tired or busy for neighbours to drop in at any old time without notice or a phone call and preparation, and usually our neighbours are an unknown quantity.  Because of this, trust is at a premium.  We don't really know them so we don't ask them in  -  "You never know what might happen".

This doesn't apply in the community we are speaking about.  They have to know their neighbour, they have to get along, because each member relies on the other.  You can't afford to be dishonest, uncaring, or "standoffish".   Simple skills are valued because they are the means of exchange, money being pretty scarce.

I am not sure we can turn back the clock, but we could be more caring don't you think.  How about YOU make an effort to get to know the people in YOUR street.

Don't know how?  I find that "the blue lady" statue is a great conversation opener.  Plus, I am constantly making changes to the front garden, and hanging odds and ends in the trees.   I started this when I joined the "yarn bombing" group and it has been wonderful.  These colourful bits and bob hanging about and bobbing in the breeze, attracts the children and gives people who pass by the opportunity to chat, firstly about the artworks, then about the weather, and then about themselves.

It is a good first step.  Try it for yourself.  It beats "door knocking" if that is not the kind of person you are…..

"YARN-BOMBING"  We will be returning to yarn bombing Fridays at the library at the beginning of the school year, and hope that you will be joining us then, even if you can't knit!
(If you are looking for a Holiday project, go see the ZPAGETTI on the web site shop www.yogabeautiful.com.au)

HOW ABOUT AFFILIATING IN THE NEW YEAR?
You have been teaching for some time now, have a full book in your classes?  The next step is to apply for affiliation with us so that you can be a teacher training centre where you are.  We still do all the modules, the theory, but you get to teach the asanas, techniques – the hands-on stuff.

It is the natural progression, and you can set your own rates, your own school name etc – just under our banner.   Think about it and get back to me.

"You are the ruby in the heart of granite.  How long will you try to deceive us.  We can see the truth in your eyes.  So come, return to the root of the root of your own self"  (Rumi)

"DUNIERA":  From March this year for 8 weeks,  I will be holding the Tuesday evening class at Duniera, a fabulous old mansion  on Mt.Macedon.  You won't often get the opportunity to do your yoga in such splendid surroundings (actually the kitchen alone is large enough to have a class in,  just by itself).  The cost of the class is $20 because custodial staff needs to be employed to watch that we don't run off with the paintings, or drapes.  This is a "one off" chance to do yoga in a beautiful old mansion, so take advantage of this opportunity.

YOGA TEACHER TRAINING MORNING:  Wednesday 3rd February at 9am (not 9.30). Please make every effort to be there, the classes are getting better and better.    Much more participation and discussion.  This will be our last before the new year.  The next one will be Wednesday 3rd February.

THE CHAKRAS - A COLOURING-IN BOOK -

THE RECIPES – "No grain no pain" A GUIDE TO THE SIMPLE LIFE.
The ultimate in fast foods.   "5 minute Corn pasta and herb stir-up" For this Recipe and others go to www.mygfday.blogspot.com.au

NUT MILK BAGS
More uses for nut milk bags.  I used mine this week to take leaves off the top of my pond (I now have the proper equipment).  Not a recommended use, but it worked.  I am busy straining yoghurt to make cream cheese.  This is simple, cheap and effective.  You should buy one and try it.  A good use for end of use-by-date yoghurt. www.yogabeautiful.com.au

THE GARDEN:
I have installed a table and seat near the bee hive, and have even crept close to the hive and put my ear against it so I could hear what was going on inside.  The sounds are so different at different times.  It is so easy to slip into a deep meditative state whilst watching the bees.  I now have a blog to talk to you about my progress in this area.  Do go on over.  Www.beemeditation.blogspot.com

I have ordered "THE SHAMANIC WAY OF THE BEE".  If you would like to reserve a copy email me yogafirst@netcon.net.au  I am not sure of the cost.  About $15 I would expect plus postage.

YIN YOGA DVD with Paul Grilley
These sell all the year…. We are selling these for under $40 plus postage which may explain our turnover.  When I bought mine I paid nearly $100 for it and was pleased to do it.   So if you want a set, order now from the shop on our web site – or ring Debbie and she will post one out as soon as they come to hand  – call on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 0354 273 518 (or order one when you come to teacher training. Www.yogabeautiful.com.au

JAHNE'S MENTORING SESSIONS – "Step4th Mentoring"
Because Jahne has been teaching yoga for more than 40 years, and running a business the Buddhist way for much longer than that (and successfully) she is often asked for advice. Asking course questions is free,   but,  if you wish to have Jahne help you with relationships, career, or just getting personally  "unstuck" then that is coaching/mentoring and does come with a cost. Her charge per half hour for mentoring is $75 and $65 for student teachers.  It is amazing how much you can shift in half an hour when you strip away the unnecessary chatter.  It's the Buddhist way.

'A CIRCLE OF WOMEN" (our monthly meetings – next one see above)
A CIRCLE OF WOMEN may just be the most powerful force known to humanity.  If you have one, embrace it.  If you need one, seek it.  DIVE IN, HOLD ON, LOVE IT UP.  Get naked.  Let them see you.  Let them hold you.  Let your reluctant tears fall.  Let yourself rise fierce and love gentle.  YOU WILL BE CHANGED.  The very fabric of your being will be altered by this, if you allow it.  PLEASE, PLEASE ALLOW IT (author:: Jeanette Leblanc).

Our yoga classes are the source of a CIRCLE OF WOMEN, and the luncheon functions and etc provides the fun part of our circle.  Please join in.

REGARDING DEBBIE – If you want to speak to Debbie about any aspect of the courses – she has done them, please remember that she only comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  She is available on Ph: 0354 273 518.  I am always here, and available preferably on email or text because I teach.  Don't hesitate to email me and I will answer your email or text as soon as I can..
